How to transcribe and manage subtitles for your YouTube videos

You just need to link your Youtube account to Happy Scribe and you'll be able to start transcribing instantly. Alternatively, you can transcribe individual videos by pasting their YouTube URL into Happy Scribe.

Happy Scribe provides two main methods for transcribing YouTube videos: connecting your YouTube channel for bulk transcription or using individual video URLs for specific transcriptions.

Here's how it's done :

  • Make sure that you are signed in to your Youtube account

  • On Happy Scribe's Upload page, click on New file and then select My Youtube Channel.

  • Click on Connect to my Youtube Channel

  • All videos on your Youtube Channel will appear on Happy Scribe. Choose the ones you want to transcribe and once you click Select they'll start uploading.

  • Finally, click Continue and your file will be ready in a few moments šŸ˜„

Managing Subtitles for YouTube Videos

Happy Scribe does not automatically replace subtitles on your YouTube channel due to YouTube’s security permissions. To update subtitles for your YouTube videos, follow these steps:

  1. Export Subtitles from Happy Scribe: After proofreading your subtitles in Happy Scribe, export them in .srt format.

  2. Upload Subtitles to YouTube:

    • Open YouTube Studio and navigate to the video you want to update.

    • Go to the "Subtitles" section and upload the .srt file.

  3. Publish the Subtitles: Once uploaded, YouTube will prioritize your manually uploaded subtitles over its automatically generated ones. Tip: While you can also export a video from Happy Scribe with subtitles burned in, uploading an .srt file is generally better for SEO purposes.

Transcribing Individual YouTube Videos

If you prefer to transcribe a single video without connecting your channel, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Happy Scribe account.

  2. From the Home screen click on "Transcribe files" and select the "Paste links" option.

  3. Paste the URL of the YouTube video you want to transcribe.

  4. Choose the spoken language of the video.

  5. Click "Create" to start the transcription process. Happy Scribe will process the audio and generate the transcript automatically.
